Amazon seem to be awash with cheap Android tablets, and, to be honest, I haven't personally tried them all. Being a relatively small blog writer, companies don't lend me units to review. However, I read reviews of tablet pc, such as the Mid 7 inch, as well as Amazon customer's reviews, which are always extremely useful, honest and from people that have purchased the unit with their own money, but just some reviewer that's given one for free and expected to give a positive slant on the tablet pc.
So, this Mid 7 inch Android Tablet PC is available on Amazon and currently has 23 customer reviews.
There are downsides, but the price pretty much makes up for them all. You can upgrade the storage by purchasing an SD card
, similar to that you have in your digital camera, up to 32GB. It runs Android 2.1, which is what it is, an outdated piece of software. The battery life is 3 hours, which is something to be aware of. As a comparison, if you like that sort of thing, the iPad 2's battery life is 10 hours, but they are the sort of compromises that may be worth making.
As with most cheap tablet pcs they are not bargains as such, you're not getting a cut price iPad, or a cheap Asus. But, as long as you are aware of these limitations, they offer reasonable value. It's an ideal way to get yourself into the tablet pc market if, for instance, you're a bit unsure what you'd use it for, or how much you'd use it. With any luck you'll be hooked and be back for more.
It does support Android Market, not all cheap tablet pcs do. Also, as with most cheap tablet pcs, it's a Chinese import.
As a final note, and I say this about all budget devices, be aware that you might not get the levels of support you get from the likes of Apple and Motorola, most sellers are fairly small, selling imported tablets. If this is a worry for you, look at companies such as Storage Options and their Scroll tablet range.
